The Kia Carens Clavis is a practical and feature-rich family MPV. Now, with the addition of an all-electric variant, buyers are faced with a serious question. Should you go for the traditional ICE version, or take the plunge with the new EV?
Here, we take a look at how the two versions compare across key aspects to help you make the right choice.
Performance
The EV comes with a 170bhp/255Nm electric motor, which is paired with a 51.4kWh battery pack. Acceleration is smooth and responsive in urban conditions, and it offers near-silent operation. The ICE version, in contrast, uses petrol and diesel engine options that offer better long-distance usability. The ICE versions cannot match the linear power delivery and low-speed refinement of the EV, although the diesel version makes more sense for frequent long-distance commutes.

Driving Experience
The EV is easier to drive in traffic, thanks to its one-pedal driving capability and regenerative braking. The ICE version feels more mechanical and conventional, which some buyers may prefer. However, for city commutes, the EV offers a more relaxing experience.
Range vs Refuelling
With a claimed ARAI range of 490km and a real-world range of around 360km, the Clavis EV can comfortably handle daily duties and occasional weekend trips. That said, long-distance travel still requires careful planning. With the ability to refuel in minutes, the ICE version takes the point here.

Interior and Seating
Both variants share the same cabin layout, but there are a few important differences. The EV gets a floating centre console and a gear selector mounted on the steering column. This frees up space and adds a modern touch. However, it is only available as a seven-seater. The ICE Clavis on the other hand, offers both six- and seven-seat configurations, making it more versatile.
Verdict
The Carens Clavis EV makes more sense if your usage is largely urban, and you want a refined, tech-laden daily vehicle with occasional outstation trips. But if long highway journeys and flexible seating options are high on your list, the ICE Clavis still builds a strong case. Ultimately, both variants are compelling, and it comes down to your priorities.
