- Added Nexon CNG in 2024
- All Tata cars are now available with twin-cylinder technology
Tata has said it has seen a 35 per cent growth in demand for its CNG-powered cars. Overall, it sold 1.39 lakh CNG-powered models in FY2025 as compared to 91,000 units in FY2024, resulting in a massive growth.
The Catalyst Factor
Tata’s expansion of market share in the segment looks to have come with the addition of the Nexon CNG, as well as introducing an AMT option for the CNG Tigor and the Tiago. It has been said that the CNG-powered Tiago and Tigor now have a higher demand as compared to the standard petrol versions. The automaker currently has five CNG-powered models in its lineup, and offers its twin-cylinder technology as standard across the range. In fact, it now has a CNG lineup rivalling Maruti Suzuki offerings, but with a wider range of body styles.

Slightly Higher Numbers
However, we suspect that this number could have been slightly higher had they not seen a drop in demand for hatchbacks and sedans. The automaker said that it saw a 12 per cent drop in demand for hatchbacks and sedans, but is hopeful that there will be a turnaround with the arrival of the updated Altroz.

SUVs Galore
Tata, like Maruti, has admitted that the demand for small cars has dropped significantly over the last few years. This comes on the back of first-time buyers coming with higher budgets, and of course, the SUV storm that’s been consuming other body styles across price points.
