- Available in three broad variants
- Claimed range of 656km
The Mahindra XEV 9e, along with its radical-looking sibling, the BE 6, has disrupted the market by being one of the most feature-rich EVs from an Indian OEM so far. Now, after much anticipation, it is time to look beneath the surface and assess how practical it really is. We tested the real-world range of the Mahindra XEV 9e, and it might just answer an important question — can this be your only car?

The variant we tested was the top-spec Pack Three, finished in Everest White and powered by a 79kWh battery pack. For this test, specific parameters were maintained – climate control set between 23 to 24 degrees, fan speed and regen at level two, and the drive mode locked in ‘Default’. It is worth noting that the ventilated seat function was used occasionally during the drive.

As for the real-world figures, after driving the car for three consecutive days amid heavy rainfall in Mumbai, we managed to extract 462.6km before the battery fully ran out of juice. Compared to the MIDC-claimed range of 656km (combined P1 + P2), this equates to around 70 per cent of the claimed figure.

The Mahindra XEV 9e Pack Three is priced at Rs 30.50 lakh (ex-showroom). For the asking price, the features, space, and overall feel-good factor are truly commendable. Now, adding to its appeal is the real-world driving range of 460-480km on a single charge, which makes the XEV 9e a strong value proposition. If these aspects align with your priorities, it could very well serve as the only car in your garage.
We have carried out a similar real-world range test of the Hyundai Creta Electric, and the results are now live on our website.
